“With the new Federal Health Care Legislation enacted in March, 2010, the Medicare Advantage subsidy levels were not increased for 2011. At the same time, medical costs continue to rise. One result of the healthcare reform legislation is that all of the increase in medical claims costs for 2011 is passed to STRS Ohio in higher premiums. The initial quote from Aetna increased our current per-member-per-month rate of $68.49 to $123.39 for 2011. However, through staff’s vigorous negotiating, Aetna has reduced this rate to $108.30. This preliminary quote is a “not to exceed” quote, which means the final quote cannot be any higher. The STRS rate is still less than the preliminary rate for the Medical Mutual Medicare Parts A & B Plus Plan.
Keep in mind if you do not have Medicare Parts A & B, only have Part A these rates do not apply to you at this time. It is still early days for any final rates for all coverage.
