The Slate
6 09 2008
I’m sure you are as happy as I am that the days of high temperatures and humidity will soon be over! We have enjoyed our days in the sun and now we can look forward to cooler weather and meeting our many friends again. The Board has planned several interesting programs for future meetings. We have a member from STRS for our September meeting and Miss Ohio for our October meeting. Miss Ohio in 2010, Becky Minger, is a graduate of Northview High School and Bowling Green State University. Look for more information regarding Becky in a future Slate newsletter.
I deeply appreciate the many loyal and faithful members of LCRTA. So many of you devoting your time and energy to volunteering in a vast variety of ways to make our organization viable and strong. I thank those who called during our hiatus to make suggestions or tell me how much they enjoyed our variety of programs. Lucas County Retired Teachers are not only the greatest; they are deep pockets of hidden treasure throughout our community.
See you soon!
Millie Allred, President

2011 LCRTA Dues are due now!
Send the renewal form found in the September Slate along with a check made out to LCRTA for $15.00. For those who might be interested in a life membership, the check should be for $125.00.
ORTA dues are increasing. Pay by November 15, 2010 and pay the 2010 amount of $20.00 for an annual membership. After that annual dues for ORTA will be $30.00. ORTA life membership dues become $500.00 on September 1, 2010. Check the name label on The Slate. An “L” before the slash indicates a life membership in LCRTA. An “L” after the slash indicates a life membership in ORTA. Numbers either before or after the slash indicates the year in which your membership expires.
If you move or change your address, The Slate, may not be forwarded and instead returned to LCRTA. If there is no change of address on file we will maintain your membership but not send The Slate as we have to pay return postage on all mail that is returned as undeliverable. Call Dick Brunt, 734-856-3737 or email: lcrta@hotmail.org with any questions.

Many of the comments from the May 18, 2010 LCRTA luncheon meeting were positive. Sara Mattson, director of Creating Young Readers Project, showed the 122 members a sample book bag filled with books that are given to the children of adult students who have just learned to read themselves. LCRTA donated the money for this readying project. Mike O’Rourke from Black Diamond shared some gardening ideas and stories. He also generously gave away bushes, plants, fertilizers, money coupons, and pens to all the members and guests. Some comments about Mike O’Rourke were: “Helped us to laugh and gave great info!”, “Entertaining speaker!”, “Wonderful prizes and speaker! Fun.” “Great meeting!”, “I didn’t know anything about gardening and didn’t think I’d be interested but it was great!”. Most enjoyed the luncheon food. Some of the comments were: “Really like choices on menu”, “Wonderful luncheon!,” “Decorations are gorgeous!,” and “Food Great!.” A few members thought the food was fair.
